The city of Paris is set to elect its first ever female mayor. On Sunday voters cast their ballots in the first round of local elections. The race for mayor has been close between Socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo, the daughter of Spanish immigrants and Sarkozy’s former environment minister, Nathalie Kosciuscko-Morizet. France’s far-right National Front made a breakthrough, winning its first mayoral race since 1995 in the northern town of Hénin-Beaumont. The party benefited from widespread disillusionment with the country’s two main parties. We’ll look at some initial election results with Eve Zuckerman. She’s originally from France and is president of the French Club at the University of Chicago, where she studies political science. PHOTO: (AP Photo/Michel Euler)Paris mayoral candidate Anne Hidalgo.
