Germany has sent a special delegation to Washington to discuss U.S. surveillance tactics after it was reported that the United States had tapped the phone of Angela Merkel. Merkel has said the surveillance has affected trust between the two nations. Members of the European Parliament’s civil liberties committee are also meeting with the State Department this week to discuss U.S. surveillance of E.U. citizens.
