Alex Poppe is an educator, writer and lecturer at The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. She has lived in northern Iraq and the West bank for years. Her latest book Girl, World: stories by Alex Poppe, deals with issues of loss and identity through stories including sex trafficking, rape in the military, Black Lives Matter, western girls who join jihad, and Palestinian life in the occupied West Bank. Poppe tells Worldview how the stories in Girl, World are a lesson to women in the West that in much of the world, the concept gender and difference is not celebrated.
