Worldview continues its series from India with a trip to the southern city of Bangalore. It’s known as the Silicon Valley of India. Bangalore has seen enormous economic growth over the past couple of decades. Some feel this growth has come at too high a cost for Bangalore’s society and environment. Worldview spoke with S.R. Hiremath, a co-founder of India Development Service . He left Chicago in 1979 and founded the NGO Samaj Parivartana Samudaya (Community for Social Change) to create a “free, democratic, secular, egalitarian, non-violent, non exploitative and just society” in India. Mr. Hiremath has been at the center of numerous campaigns and legal action against government corruption and big polluters. PHOTO: Jerome McDonnell interviewing S.R.
