The World Health Organization estimates around 300 million people globally are visually impaired. Of those, 39 million of them are blind. Nine out of every ten visually-impaired people are low-income.

Dr. Manu Vora is president and founding director of the Blind Foundation for India (BFI) based in Naperville, IL. We first spoke with him in 2008. For our Global Activism segment, Dr. Vora is back to update us on BFI’s work in India that’s restored sight to over 160,000 people through affordable cataract removal and other treatments.

Joining him is Dr. Swami Varishthananda (Swami G.). He is a pediatrician and program coordinator at the Ramakrishna Mission Home of Service , based in Varanasi, India. BFI has supported the mission since 2014.
