Chicagoan and global activist, Debra Gittler, wanted to “create conditions on-the-ground through literacy education, opportunity and advocacy” to help children and families in Central America thrive. So she moved to El Salvador and started ConTextos.

Gittler has since expanded her work to prison inmates. She’s now back in Chicago and has partnered with Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart, to bring the ConTextos model to the Cook County Department of Corrections. Worldview visited Cook County’s Division 10 to witness ConTextos in action.

For our Global Activism segment, Gittler and Dart join us to talk about their collaboration.
