Global Activism: Foundation offers study abroad scholarships to Chicago students

Chicagoan David Weindling left his career in private business to dedicate himself full-time to socioeconomically deprived kids in the Chicago area. Dave founded the Farther Foundation, based in Oak Park, to provide scholarships so high-schoolers can travel the world to do service projects and have contact with people from other cultures. He also hopes these encounters will inspire these kids to overcome their own life challenges. The Farther Foundation has sent, over the last five years, more than 80 students to 25 countries, across six continents. (Photo: Courtesy of The Farther Foundation)
