Global Activism in India: Pravah helps youth overcome sexism and caste

We continue our Global Activism in India series with a visit to Delhi. We and India Development Service, met with the NGO, Community Youth Collective Learning and Leadership Journey a project of the NGO, Pravah. The project tries to inspire India’s youth to become leaders and overcome traditional societal barriers, such as class and sexism. Pravah received attention when co- director, Neha Buch, introduced President Obama before one of his speeches during his visit to India. We’ll chat with co-director, Sonal Chaturvedim, and young people about how they now achieve in areas that were cut off from them. PHOTO: Pravah member, Manisha, emotionally talks of how much of India society considered education wasted on a woman, especially from a lower class. But after working with the NGO, Pravah, she and her husband are inspired to achieve. In Pravah's Delhi offices February 1, 2015 (Photo by Steve Bynum)
