Global Activism: Spark Ventures creates new model for helping children living in poverty
We’ve talked with Global Activist group, Spark Ventures, a couple of times. The Chicago-based nonprofit has developed what it calls an “innovative model of business driven philanthropy to bring sustainable solutions to children living in poverty.” Now, the organization has teamed up with another non-profit, Allowance for Good (AfG). AfG’s focus is to “raise the next generation of philanthropists." The two groups just returned from a service learning trip to Spark's social impact partner in Nicaragua. While there, they introduced Chicagoland youth to new friends and new perspectives. For "Global Activism", we speak with Sylvana Peneff, a high school senior who traveled with Spark Ventures and AfG, Sparks Venture Board Member, Jeff Plaisted, who joined the trip with his wife and two young children and Elizabeth Newton, founder and executive director of AfG.
