Like many, Don Larson, enjoyed candy and nuts as a child. He would go on to make his living as an executive for Hershey Foods after growing up in Glen Ellyn, IL. Larson’s life changed when the job took him to Mozambique.

According to Larson, 80 percent of Mozambique’s population is comprised of farmers, with well over 90 percent of them subsistence farmers. Larson started the Sunshine Nut Company as away to benefit farmers, orphans and refugees. 90 percent of company profits go to helping farmers and the poor of Mozambique.

His staff consists mostly of Mozambiquans who were orphaned or abandoned as children. Today, the Sunshine Nut company enjoys success selling to big stores like Whole Foods.
