Global Notes: Eastern Christian Liturgical Music

Christianity is often considered a Western religion, but it’s earliest roots were in the East. The Acts of the Apostles tell the story of St. Philip evangelizing to the Ethiopians in the 1st century. The Apostle Thomas is said to have traveled to India, and Andrew trekked the Balkans, north of the Black Sea, almost as far as the Arctic. This week on Global Notes with Morning Shift and Radio M host Tony Sarabia, we hear some of the music that’s descended from these ancient Eastern Christian traditions. He’s joined by Julian Hayda, a producer of Worldview, descended from 400 years of clergy in these Churches.
