For this week’s Global Notes, Morning Shift and Radio M host Tony Sarabia introduces us to a new play: The Manganiyar Classroom, which recently toured in Australia.

The play, by renowned Indian director Roysten Abel, is a follow up to his first play — The Manganiyar Seduction — about the music made by the Manganiyar, Muslim musicians from Sindh, Pakistan and Rajasthan, India.

The Manganiyar Classroom centers on the talents and experiences of Manganiyar children, providing commentary on how India’s public education system is threatening this musical tradition.
