Celebrating the release of her new album, “The Oracle,” Chicago-based jazz musician Angel Bat Dawid joins us this afternoon to chat about her work, which she describes as “sonic healing for the community.” The album, released by Chicago label International Anthem, was recorded over the past year and contains songs that emerged from jam sessions, South African gqom influences and poetry by Margaret Burroughs and Gwendolyn Brooks. Apart from a drum track on one song, it’s also entirely composed, played and mixed by Angel herself. Tune in to learn more about “The Oracle,” hear clips of Angel’s songs and learn more about the artistic community she co-founded, the Participatory Music Coalition.
