Global Notes: The rude boy subculture

This week on Global Notes, we explore the themes of the “rude boy” in Jamaican ska and rocky steady music. The rude boy subculture arose from the poorer sections of Kingston, Jamaica not long after the country’s independence in 1962 and was associated with violent discontented youths. Morning Shift and Radio M host Tony Sarabia tells us more about rude boy style and shares some tunes. (Photo: Wikimedia Commons - Alton Ellis - from Flickr)
