The Greek government has labeled the Golden Dawn party a “neo-Nazi criminal gang.” It’s also suspended funding for the party, which in 2012 earned 18 seats in the country’s parliament. The party is also under criminal investigation for its potential ties to the murder of a Greek rap singer last month. Party leader Nikos Michaloliakos and two other Golden Dawn lawmakers are in currently in custody, pending trial. Matthew Goodwin, an associate professor of politics at the University of Nottingham who specializes in extremism, British and European politics, and public attitudes toward immigration and minorities, joins us to discuss the Golden Dawn and the rise of the right in European politics.
