Local farmers market Green City Market celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. But after years of expansion, farmers markets in Chicago have recently been losing customers. Partly as a result, Chicago lost five farmers markets this year. Green City Market has been trying out new strategies to keep customers coming back. One is an Ask the Chef Tent, where customers can get expert advice on produce and cooking. Green City Market also introduced an app through which customers can browse and pre-order produce before arriving at the market. And the market continues to offer services it always has, such as a compost program through which people can drop off their compost for a small fee. Joining Worldview to talk about the evolving world of farmers markets is Melissa Flynn, executive director of Green City Market.
