Last week representatives from the U.S. government defended the United States’ record of compliance with the Convention Against Torture. Mary Lynn Everson, the senior director of the Marjorie Kovler Center, joins us to talk about why her organization believes torture victims in the U.S. are not able to get the kind of rehabilitation they deserve. And, the Netherlands’ highest administrative court, the Council of State, ruled in favor of a controversial black face Saint Nicholas Day figure. We’ll talk about the role of Zwarte Piet and the changing way he is depicted in Dutch society with Roelof Jan Minneboo, a Dutch historian who represents the Zwarte Piet is Racism campaign. Then, ArtWorks Projects for Human Rights is presenting a series of exhibits and panel discussions that deal with the issue of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict from various perspectives. Dr. Rachel Havrelock and Dr. Mousa Diabat will talk about how water resource management can assist in conflict resolution between Israel and Palestine.
