Last night, President Obama announced an executive order that could shield up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation. In Australia, it is much harder for immigrant families to be united than in the United States, yet a much higher percentage of the population were born outside of Australia than in the United States. As the debate over immigration continues in the U.S., Madeleine Sumption, director of international research for the Migration Policy Institute, tells us what the U.S. can learn from studying Australia’s policies.
