Humanitarian Crises In Afghanistan And Yemen
As Saudi Arabia tries to tighten its foothold in Yemen, bombing raids against Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels are escalating a growing refugee crisis.
We spoke with Kathy Kelly and Sabia Rigby, co-coordinators of the peace group Voices for Creative Nonviolence.
Rigby feels more attention must be paid to what she observes as a “catastrophic” humanitarian crisis. Rigby recently volunteered to help refugees — many from Yemen — at St. Maria Skobstova Catholic Worker house in Calais, France. Kelly spends a great deal of time in Afghanistan and reports on the aftereffects of drone attacks. She’s just back from a fact-finding mission in the country. Kelly explained why she believes much of the news we receive on the conflicts in Yemen and Afghanistan is propaganda to distract from civilian deaths.
