This week Illinois lawmakers unanimously passed a bill that prevents the state’s pension fund from investing in companies that boycott Israel. The bill, SB1761, requires the state’s pension system to remove companies that boycott Israel from their portfolios. Governor Bruce Rauner is expected to sign the measure. Illinois is the first state in the country to pass such a bill. We discuss the impact of the bill with Dima Khalidi, director of Palestine Solidarity Legal Support in Chicago. Her group opposed the bill and we speak with Illinois State Senator Ira Silverstein, a co-sponsor of the bill.
