Just nominated by the Golden Globes for Best Foreign-Language Picture, Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki’s latest movie, “Capernaum (Capharnaüm)”, takes a unique angle on human rights abuses against children. The fictional drama follows a 12-year-old Lebanese boy who decides to sue his parents in court for giving birth to him. Labaki used non-actors in the film. WBEZ Film Contributor and Director at Facets Chicago, Milos Stehlik, interviews the world’s great and innovative filmmakers on Worldview. This week, he speaks with Labaki about her film, and the plight of children around the world. She believes using non-actors will help shake us out of our widespread indifference to children’s suffering.
