India will hold national elections in early April. It’s an election where some 814 million eligible voters will vote to elect 543 members of Parliament. It’s considered to be one of the world’s biggest elections. At the moment no one party is in the lead although some polls suggest that for the first time in decades the Indian National Congress, the political party of the Ghandi family, may not gain a substantial representation in Parliament. Sumit Ganguly, a professor of political science and director of the Center on American And Global Security at Indiana University, joins us to discuss the twists and turns of India’s next election.
