Instability continues in Mali

A French intervention in January helped to oust Islamic rebels from power, but the continued fighting reflects how difficult it’s been to fully secure the country. Last week United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon said the country may need 11,000 peacekeepers to help curb the threats posed by militant Islamists.
