Last week, the Iraqi army took back the city of Mosul from ISIS. The  U.S. coalition supported military campaign, began in October 2016. Iraqi officials claimed its forces killed approximately 25,000 ISIS fighters. Amnesty International claims nearly 6000 civilians were killed. Other estimates put the number of displaced at around 700,000. Thousands of buildings, across large swaths of Mosul, now lay in rubble. ISIS is still entrenched in many Iraqi cities and towns, including Tal Afar, 30 miles west of Mosul. Reports maintain taking back the mid-sized town is the Iraqi military’s next goal.
