Lady Gaga and Azerbaijan controversy

Lady Gaga caused a PR storm from her surprise performance on June 12th, 2015 at the opening ceremonies of the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. the Azeri government has been criticized for human rights and civil liberties abuses. Critics of President Ilham Aliyev have been jailed or fled the country. While critics push Lady Gaga to speak out on why she performed at the Games, repressive regimes around the globe crack down on musicians, artists and writers.
