Learning to landscape with native plants

Preserving biodiversity isn’t just for Brazilians in the rain forest. In order to halt the decline of species in our communities, people’s front yards and landscaping has to change. Just a few native plants can bring your landscape to life. That’s what Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens believes. This weekend there’s a living landscapes conference at Dominican University. It’s put on by the West Cook chapter of the Wild Ones. They’re a national organization devoted to native plants and living landscapes. We’ll dig deep into the world of native plants with Doug Tallamy and Pamela Todd, president of the West Cook chapter of the Wild Ones. (Photo: Courtesy of Jerome McDonnell)
