Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto's drug strategy

Mexican President Felipe Calderón tried to aggressively take on cartels during his presidency, deploying more than 50,000 troops to combat the drug trade. That proved to be a bloody strategy. According to some estimates, more than 70,000 drug-related deaths occurred during Calderon’s time in office. We assess what current president Enrique Peña Nieto's first eight months in office have meant for Mexico’s illegal drug trade with author and journalist Alfredo Corchado. Corchado is the Mexico bureau chief for the Dallas Morning News and author of 'Midnight in Mexico: A Reporter’s Journey Through a Country’s Descent into Darkness.' (Photo: AP Images).
