Mike Pompeo Vows 'Strongest Sanctions In History' On Iran

When President Donald Trump announced, earlier this month, that he would not recertify the Iran Nuclear Deal, he said “any nation that helps Iran and its quest for nuclear weapons could also be strongly sanctioned by the United States. We will not allow the U.S. to be threatened by nuclear blackmail.”

On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced he would implement the “strongest sanctions in history” against Iran. Restrictions would also threaten many U.S. allies, which do business with Iran. Meanwhile, the Pentagon said it was “going to take all necessary steps to confront and address Iran’s malign influence in the region.”

To discuss, we’re joined by Trita Parsi, founding president of the National Iranian American Council. He’s author of the book Losing an Enemy: Obama, Iran, and the Triumph of Diplomacy.
