Milos Stehlik interviews the world’s great and innovative filmmakers. Today’s Master Class is a chat he’ll have with Swedish filmmaker, Bjorn Runge about his new film “The Wife”. The story centers on Joe Castleman. Played by Jonathan Pryce, he’s a successful American novelist in a long-term marriage with Joan, played by Glenn Close. After Joe gets the news that he’s won the Nobel Prize for literature, his journey to Sweden to accept the award creates a marriage crisis. Stehlik, WBEZ’s film contributor and director at Facets Chicago, talks with Runge about why he chose the script, adapted from the Meg Wolitzer novel of the same name, and why he was able to bond with the Oscar-caliber cast. “The Wife” is now showing in the Chicago area at AMC River East 21, Landmark Century Centre Cinema, and Century 12 Evanston/CinéArts 6 and XD.
