WBEZ Film Contributor and Director at Facets Chicago, Milos Stehlik, believes the fashion film documentary has become a bit of a worn genre in the last few years, but he believes the new film about the late fashion icon, Alexander McQueen, breaks that mold. McQueen looks at the designer’s trailblazing life, craft and career. McQueen took his own life in 2010 at age 40. McQueen once said that, “Every  fashion designer wants to create an illusion, to create things that disturb people.” In that vain, McQueen’s co-directors and co-writers, Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, used interviews with family and close friends, fashion runway footage, lost videos, eye-popping visuals and pulsating music, to shock the senses, as well as inform. Milos Stehlik interviews the world’s innovative filmmakers. Today he chats with Bonhôte and Ettedgui about Alexander McQueen’s life, and their film, which they determined would not become another “typical fashion film”. McQueen opens today at Landmark Century Centre Cinema in Chicago.
