Human Flow is the new film by famed Chinese artist, activist, and filmmaker Ai Weiwei, who’s spent most of the last few years under house arrest in China for his human rights activism. After getting back his passport a few years ago, Ai — who is famous for his large, striking, and provocative art installations — left China to document the global refugee crisis.

Human Flow spans over 20 countries tracking asylum seekers including, Syrians, Kenyans, Kurds, Palestinians, and Burma’s Rohingya. WBEZ film contributor Milos Stehlik of Facets joins us to talk about Ai’s ambitious achievement. 

Human Flow opens in Chicago on Friday, Nov. 3 at Music Box Theatre and runs through Nov. 9.
