The 2018 Chicago Latino Film Festival is wrapping up. WBEZ film contributor and director at Facets Chicago Milos Stehlik talks with two filmmakers making the trip to Chicago to showcase their films: Marialy Rivas, director of Princesita, and Ricardo Olivero Lora and Julio César Torres, co-directors of Nuyorican Básquet.
“Princesita” is set in southern Chile, where a charismatic cult leader tries to charm a 12-year old into carrying his child. “Nuyorican Básquet” tells the story of Puerto Rico’s 1979 National Basketball Team. Most of its players were born or raised in New York. Their story encapsulates identity issues that still ring true for Puerto Rican-Americans and Puerto Rico’s diaspora.
