The landmark 2017 book “Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism” launched a spirited conversation around romantic love during the end of the Cold War. But for Polish filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski, love under communism is a lot more nuanced. His new film, “Cold War”, has received more Academy Award nominations than any other Polish film. It follows a couple across 15 years, starting in Poland and continuing on to their exile in France, and how larger political forces like Stalinism affected their relationship. Pawlikowski’s previous film, “Ida”, won the 2015 Oscar for Best Foreign Film. WBEZ Film Contributor and Director at Facets Chicago Milos Stehlik interviews the world’s great filmmakers on Worldview.
