Mohammed Omer Compares U.S. Immigrant Detentions, Mass Incarceration And Gaza

Social movements like Black Lives Matter have drawn controversy after making public declarations in solidarity with the Palestinian rights movement. 

Dr. Mohammed Omer is an independent journalist, based in Gaza. He’s been traveling across the U.S., visiting the U.S.-Mexico border and Ferguson, Missouri to research similarities between U.S. immigration and urban policy and Israeli policy in Gaza. 

Omer is author of the book Shell Shocked: On the Ground Under Israel’s Gaza Assault. His Op-Eds have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Nation and Vice. Omer is currently a visiting Research Scholar at Harvard University.
