Narendra Modi, a candidate for prime minister in India, has campaigned on the fact that because he’s a bachelor, he’s trustworthy. “Why would I indulge in corruption? For whom?”, he’s said. But an intrepid reporter has discovered that Modi is no bachelor and the story has made big headlines in India. Generally, ”in India, the press leaves people (politicians) alone in terms of their marital lives, unless they do something really, really terrible or flamboyant,” says Sumit Ganguly, a professor of political science and director of the Center on American and Global Security at Indiana University-Bloomington.
