Netherlands Issues Strict Meat Eating Guidelines

Last week, the government-funded Nutrition Centre in The Netherlands updated their dietary guidelines. For the first time, the new recommendations call for an explicit limit on meat, advising just two-servings of meat per week. 

The reduction of animal-based foods was not only a dietary decision, but also a step towards environmental sustainability. 

Dr. Kathleen Merrigan is the former deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the executive director or sustainability at George Washington University. She joined us to talk about the global effort to trim meat from our diets.
