Authors Ivo Daalder and James Lindsay join Worldview to discuss their latest collaboration,The Empty Throne: America’s Abdication of Global Leadership. In the book, Daalder and Lindsay claim that the foundations of “postwar foreign policy that America created - strong alliances, open markets, and commitment to democracy and human rights”- are under direct threat by President Donald Trump. The Empty Throne cautions that the manner in which President Trump handles global and diplomatic affairs diminishes America’s influence on the globe, and leaves loyal U.S. allies no choice but to turn to other superpowers for global leadership. Daalder is president at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and former U.S. Ambassador to NATO. Lindsay is a senior vice president at the Council on Foreign Relations.
