Thanks to globalization and modern medicine, couples with infertility problems have more ways than ever to have a child. A new play at the Stage Left Theater in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood explores a newer, controversial option: international surrogacy. Here Where It’s Safe tells the story of Zach and Abbie, an American couple that choose to hire a surrogate parent in India, where it’s cheaper and easier. Margaret Lewis wrote Here Where It’s Safe, she says the idea for the play came from an unexpected place.
