New Report Calls For Overhaul Of Global Drug Policy
A new report from The Lancet and Johns Hopkins University calls for major reform on drug policy around the world.
The international commission of medical experts say that current policies are a threat to human rights and have led to violence, death, and the spread of diseases like HIV and Hepatitis C.
The report calls for the UN to look at efforts towards decriminalizing low-level drug offenses.
Dr. Chris Beyrer is the director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Public Health and Human Rights. He contributed to the report and joins us to talk about how governments should change the way they enforce drug laws.
