When he arrived in Khartoum, Sudan in March 2003, Dr. Mukesh Kapila says he made “a promise to himself that if he were ever in a position to stop the mass-killers, they would never triumph on his watch.” He spoke out about what he saw and he eventually lost his UN job after he condemned the organization for its failure to prevent the genocide that took place in Darfur. Dr. Kapila is currently a professor at the University of Manchester where he teaches global health and humanitarian affairs. He’s also the author of Against a Tide of Evil. He joins us to discuss the current situation in Darfur. (Photo: Flickr/Mukesh Kapila)
