Pakistan mediates diplomatic crisis in Middle East
Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran have been strained ever since Saudi Arabia executed a Shiite cleric earlier this month. That move led to protests in Iran and Saudi Arabia recalling its Ambassador from Tehran. Now, Pakistan has made a move to help mediate a reconciliation between the two countries. Earlier this week Nawaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, went to Riyadh in an attempt to ease tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran. We’ll take a look at why Pakistan has decided to take on the role of mediator with Alex Vatanka, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute and Jamestown Foundation.
