The film “Josh: Against the Grain” is inspired by the real life story of a Pakistani woman whose food kitchen challenged local power structures. It tells the story of a cosmopolitan woman from Karachi who finds herself immersed in a feudal village’s fight for food justice. Part murder mystery, part social crusade, the movie argues for people working together toward a better Pakistan. We talk with director Iram Parveen Bilal, who uses film screenings to raise awareness about the NGOs doing good work in Pakistan.
