Preserving antiquities in Yemen

United Nations-sponsored peace talks on the Yemen crisis have begun in Geneva. Thousands have been killed in the fighting and last week a 2,500-year-old protected cultural heritage site was bombed in Yemen’s capital, Sana, reducing several buildings to rubble. The Yemeni Civil War has caused the destruction of thousands of ancient artifacts, and conflicts throughout the region are supplying countless artifacts to the growing underground market. The Antiquities Coalition is a non-profit group working to stem the illegal trade of antiquities. The founder and chairwoman, Deborah Lehr, joins us to talk about what they’re doing to combat the destruction of cultural heritage sites around the globe. (Photo: AP/Hani Mohammed)
