Vladimir Putin will be elected to his fourth term as president. As Putin’s most vocal opponent, Alexei Navalny, has been banned from running. Seven opponents have been allowed to challenge Putin for the presidency, including “Russia’s Paris Hilton” Ksenia Sobchak, a 36-year-old television star whose father is a former mentee of Putin. If the outcome is already certain, why does the Putin regime still go through the charade of democratic elections?
