Twenty Democratic candidates for president took to the stage over the past two nights to participate in a series of two Democratic Primary debates in Miami. Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro in particular have been widely praised for their performances. Topics of debate included climate change, the Iranian nuclear threat, Russian interference in American democracy and healthcare. In light of an increasingly dire situation at the U.S.’ southern border, moderators also focused on the issue of immigration, asking how candidates would improve conditions and processes for migrants and asylum seekers. On this segment, we take listener calls in response to the debates, looking at who did well, who did not and what issues matter to Chicagoland residents as the 2020 elections approach. Also with us to provide analysis is Andy Thayer, co-founder of the Gay Liberation Network.
