Relief efforts continue in Nepal and US-South Asian relations
Nepal continues to rebuild after a deadly earthquake struck the country last April. According the U.S. State Department, the earthquake destroyed or damaged 760,000 homes. The United States has provided temporary housing to many displaced Nepalis and is collaborating with the Nepali government on coordinating the reconstruction of the infrastructure that was destroyed. This week, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced the US agreed to two new defense trade deals with India as part of a plan to strengthen military ties between the two countries. Nisha Desai Biswal, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, joins us to talk about the U.S. effort in Nepal and relations with India.
