The U.N. has postponed the release of a report on war crimes committed in the aftermath of Sri Lanka’s 26-year civil war. Hostilities between the Buddhist Sinhalese majority and Tamil minority ended in 2009. In part due to the U.N.’s delay, the research NGO the Oakland Institute, decided to investigate and report its own findings. Their new report is titled, The Long Shadow of War: The Struggle for Justice in Postwar Sri Lanka. We’ll speak with Oakland Institute’s Executive Director, Anuradha Mittal about what she reports as the displacement and discrimination Tamils are facing from the Sinhalese government.
