As cycling becomes more popular in North American cities, the “rules of the road” are becoming contentious discussions, even in sustainability-friendly cities like Toronto.

The Candian city is considering imposing tougher rules on construction companies to create safety zones for bikers. Lloyd Alter is design and managing editor at TreeHugger and adjunct professor at the Ryerson School of Interior Design in Toronto. An avid biker, he rides around Toronto, posting photos on his blog that identify areas of concern for bikers. Alter will tell us why he believes for cyclists, cities like Toronto need to do the “Full Copenhagen” and model their urban-planning after the Danish capital.
