Urbanist, Jaime Lerner, is a living legend in the fields of architecture, urban planning and sustainability. As former mayor of Curitiba, Brazil, his city recycled the largest percentage of its waste than any municipality in the world. Lerner’s revolutionary career, along with that of his colleague, the late Jorge Wilheim, revolutionized the way we think about the function and purpose of cities and city life. Lerner’s vision has, for decades, inspired cities, architects, planners and policy around the globe. He’s in Chicago as part of a tour sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Center for the Living City. We’ll talk with Lerner about his philosophy of sustainability, design and planning, detailed in his new book, Urban Acupuncture.
