In an interview this week with the BBC’s Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen,Syrian President Bashar al-Assad denied dropping “indiscriminate weapons” such as barrel bombs on rebel-held areas. Barrel bombs are crude and highly explosive. They are filled with scrap metal which enhances fragmentation when they explode. But Dr. Zaher Sahloul, president of the Syrian American Medical Society, says the Syrian regime is still using barrel bombs. He’s just returned from Aleppo and the hospital where he was working has been hit by barrel bombs, more than once. Dr. Sahloul joins us to discuss the interview and the ongoing war in Syria.
